Margaret Putnam
 (1913-1989) San Antonio, Texas

     Margaret Putnam expressed innovative techniques even though she was self-taught. She started a painting and it changed as her vision of the painting changes during the creative process of each painting. The outcome being different than originally planned in brilliant color.

     Margaret loved art and worked almost every day with great success. She worked in oil, pastel, casein, watercolor and wax resist often working with mixed-media. She painted many large murals. Some include the San Antonio River Walk; the H.B. Zachry Office and the Hilton Hotel downtown San Antonio.

     Margaret won many awards at the River Art Group; The Beaumont Museum; Texas Fine Arts Museum; Texas Watercolor Society & others. She was artist of the year in 1964 and had over 20 one-woman exhibits.
