John Douglass


     JOHN DOUGLASS (1905-1969) Landscape Painter, Frame Maker and Muralist. Douglass and his family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and then to Dallas, Texas in the teens and was one of the original members of the Dallas 9 where he exhibited 8 paintings along with the 9 young artists in 1932 gaining National recondition. He first studied with Dallas artist Frank Reaugh and traveled with him on his caravans to West Texas in the 20’s. He then studied in Taos, New Mexico before studying at the Arts Students League in New York where he studied with Thomas Hart Benton and Boardman Robinson. He returned home to Dallas, Texas where he executed murals & sculpture in Fair Park for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition. He established an art gallery and a custom-made frame shop in 1940 most of his own design.


     John Douglass exhibited many paintings during his career through numerous venues.
