Seth Floyd Crews

Seth Floyd Crews was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and in New York, exhibiting in 1921 at the National Academy of Design.

For a brief period of time, Crews had a commercial art studio in Chicago employing 14 people but sold out in 1916 and then moved to El Paso in 1925. He produced lithographs, oil paintings and  murals of the desert; scenes of El Paso, Mexico and throughout the southwest including western & ranch scenes and one mural of a stagecoach on the Butterfield Trail.

Crews was a traditional artist and a Magazine, Book and Movie Poster illustrator. In 1940 one of his paintings was illustrated on the cover of the New Mexico Magazine.

Seth Floyd Crews was an active exhibitor entering a painting each year (1927/28/29) in the Prestigious Edgar B. Davis national competition in San Antonio, Texas.
