As a youth, his family moved to San Antonio living only 2 miles from the Alamo. Salinas,
mostly self-taught, studied briefly with Jose Arpa, Robert Wood and Helen Slimp. According
to the Slimp family, Salinas as a young boy would knock on Slimp's door asking for art
instruction. Helen Slimp also helped Salinas design his artistic signature.
Salinas was a natural born artist, with a meticulous attention to detail, subject matter
and a soft touch. He developed his own style that is still being copied today.
Salinas is best known for his Texas Hill Country Landscapes and one of the best bluebonnet
painters during the first half of the 20th century. He additionally painted bull-fighters
and scenes of Mexico.
