30x40 Oil on Canvas
Signed "Dawson Watson 27"
1927 was one of Dawson-Watson's most successful Texas years, winning many purchase prizes and awards, including the $5,000 first place for the National Award at the Davis Competition at the Witte Museum with the painting "Glory of the Morning". This painting was painted at the same location on the Gallagher Ranch as the winning painting of same date and subject. This museum quality painting, which is one of his finest, exhibits his masterly efforts with his cactus subjects and demonstrates excellent color, composition and the addition of the unique Rain Shower and Rainbow.
Large horizontal cactus paintings by Dawson-Watson are
quite rare. The artist demonstrates his effort to create his best examples
with this large exhibit size canvas.
